What does getting dental implants involve?
The process of getting implants requires a number of visits over several months.
X-rays and impressions (molds) are taken of the jaw and teeth to determine bone, gum tissue, and spacing available for an implant. While the area is numb, the implant will be surgically placed into the bone and allowed to heal and integrate itself onto the bone for up to six months. Depending on the type of implant, a second surgery may be required in order to place the “post” that will hold the artificial tooth in place. With other implants the post and anchor are already attached and placed at the same time.
After several weeks of healing the artificial teeth are made and fitted to the post portion of the anchor. Because several fittings may be required, this step may take one to two months to complete. After a healing period, the artificial teeth are securely attached to the implant, providing excellent stability and comfort to the patient.
You will receive care instructions when your treatment is completed. Good oral hygiene, eating habits, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new implant.

The Surgical Procedure
Most of our patients will undergo two separate procedures. First, our Dentistwill prepare your bone and place the titanium post (implant) and allow the dental implant to fuse within your jaw bone for 3-4 months. In between surgeries, we will fabricate temporary teeth that fill in the missing space or spaces.
Secondly our well trained , Dentist will place a permanent tooth colored crown specially shaped and formed to match your adjacent teeth that will fit on top of your dental implant.
Surgical Advances
A new advancement is placement of dental implants in one surgery or “single stage.” When the bone and gums are healthy and the anatomy is favorable, dentist can place a dental implant immediately after tooth extraction and a prosthetic tooth or crown is placed mimicking your adjacent teeth. Six weeks later the permanent crown will be placed.
In order complete a definitive treatment plan for your dental implants, a team approach is taken which includes the oral surgeon, the general dentist, and the patient. The oral surgeon places the titanium post (implant) within your jaw bone and the general dentist places the permanent crown on top of the implant. The patient will come in for close follow up to ensure all parties are meeting patient’s expectations.
What Types Of Prosthesis Are Available?
How many crowns will you have on top of your dental implant? Single prosthesis means one crown. A fixed bridge or partial prosthesis means two or more implants will have two or more crowns. Finally, all of the teeth on your upper or lower jaw can replaced with a complete dental prosthesis or implant supported over denture. Our Surgeons will discuss with you how many dental implants you may need for the best outcome.

Sinus Graft
In the upper jaw above the back of the teeth, it is possible to increase the height of bone available by creating new bone in the sinus. This procedure is called a sinus grafting – a skilled surgeon can deliver very predictable results in this location. Without the general success of this technique, many patients would be unable to have implants in a part of the mouth where teeth are so commonly missing.
Without a Sinus Graft, it would not be possible to place implants in this case.
The bone is too thin.
The Sinus Graft is a technique of raising the sinus floor so that there is sufficient space to augmentation additional bone that will help support dental implants. We need a minimum of 10mm bone thickness to support an implant.
The 1st molar was removed and only a thin layer of bone is present. Like in Picture 1 above, without a Sinus Graft, it would not be possible to place implants in this case. The bone is too thin.
The sinus floor has been lifted and filled with bone grafting material. About 6 months later the implant will be placed.
